Today I was sworn in as the Town of Mono’s Deputy Mayor. In my remarks I paid tribute to the support and patience of my spouse Kathryn and daughter Katie during the recent election campaign.
It’s great to be back on Council and to get things off to a good start, I tabled three motions that address issues and concerns raised by Mono residents during the election.
The first deals with road and community safety. If passed, it would create a task force to investigate whether we presently have sufficient police resources, what we can do to improve policing in Mono and whether set fines under the Highway Traffic Act should be increased.
The second motion, if supported, will create a workstation at the Municipal Office or other Mono facility available to the public to upload and download large files and conduct video conferencing subject to conditions. This will be of great assistance to those with home occupations who require high speed internet to conduct business.
The third motion would have staff investigate the feasibility of establishing a Mono YouTube channel that would, among other things be used to broadcast council and possibly committee meetings.
Debate and votes on these motions may occur as early as Mono Council’s next meeting on December 11 at 9:00 a.m.
